The ‘Shehecheyanu’ Blessing

ברוךש אתא יהוה אלחינו מלך העולם

The Shehecheyanu blessing has special place in my life as it is the blessing I wanted to say when I first stepped foot in Israel.  However, I had a difficult time remembering the words.  Our second day in Jerusalem, a man on the stairs by the Temple Institute stopped me and asked if he could say a blessing over me.  This was the blessing; then, he taught it to me.

This Hebrew blessing is used on the first day of the Feasts of the LORD like Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot and other holy gatherings, memorials, seasons, and days.

Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha’Olam sh-he-chee-yanu, v’chee a manu, v’higi anu laman ha’zeh.

Blessed are you Adonai our God, King of the World who has given us life, sustained us, and allowed us to reach this season.
