Sanctify – Hebrew: Kadosh

This is the same Hebrew word as ‘holy’ and means ‘set apart’.

The word ‘saint’ comes from ‘sanctify’ and means ‘set apart ones’ or ‘holy ones.’

“Set them apart for holiness by means of the truth – your word is truth (right, faithful)” (John 17:17, CJB).

“May the God of shalom make you completely holy (set apart) – may your entire spirit, soul and body be kept blameless for the coming of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah” (1 Thessalonians 5:23, CJB).

“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Messiah Yeshua” (1 Thessalonians 5:23, NIV).

“To the Messianic Community in Corinth, consisting of those who have been set apart by (made holy by)  Yeshua the Messiah and called to be God’s holy people (saints)  ….” (1 Corinthians 1:2, CJB).

“To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Messiah Yeshua and called to be holy (sanctified) ….” (1 Corinthians 1:2, NIV).
