I read a very special testimony this morning about Mrs. Donnelly and a Jewish boy, and I have to share it because Mrs. Donnelly’s is the perfect example of my heart’s cry for non-Jewish believers today. As a gentile, she understood her Biblical calling. She understood her Messiah was descendant of King David. She openly wore a “Jewish star” to show her faith in a Jewish Jesus. She was not just ready to give an answer to a young brother of Yeshua, but to give him the Scriptures written in Biblical context, Hebrew names and Jewish idioms. She had no idea when, or if, this young man would read the Jewish New Testament, but she knew God was faithful to His Word. A Star of David on a trusting woman of the nations caused a longing in a young Jewish boy’s heart, a longing that changed his life.
Are we of the nations fulfilling our calling? Do we realize that salvation has only come to us gentiles, the nations, so we can make the Jewish people envious? Do we understand that envy will bring salvation to the brothers and sisters of Yeshua, the lost sheep of the House of Israel, to whom he came? Do we want greater riches than simply a personal justification or reconciliation of the world to God? Are we preaching a resurrection, a translation of saints, a life from the dead apart from the salvation of Israel? If we are, then we have lost the very purpose of their transgression for our spiritual riches.
We must remember Yeshua’s words to the Samaritan woman, the woman at the well who wanted to worship God in Spirit and in Truth, but needed to know the real Messiah. “Salvation is from the Jews” (John 4:22). Salvation is no other Jew or non-Jew (Acts 4:12). We must seek to share this salvation, the Jewish Messiah, in a way that makes his own people envious.
Again I ask: Did they (the Jewish people) stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring! I am talking to you Gentiles, those of the nations. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the nations, I make much of my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?” (Romans 11:11-16).
