Throw, Cast – Hebrew: Yarah

Yarah in Hebrew means ‘to throw, to cast, direct, teach, instruct.’  Yarah is the root of the word Torah and suggests that Torah is like a target, the goal to which we are to attain.  Torah, instructions, and teachings are found 598 times in the Complete Jewish Bible.

When Yeshua said in Matthew 5:17 that he did not come to abolish the Torah but to fulfill it, he was referring to ‘attaining the goal at which Torah is the target.’ He never missed the mark.

“But I will teach [yarah] you the good and right way” (1 Samuel 12:23).

“Teach [yarah] me your way, Adonai; lead me on a level path because of my enemies …” (Psalm 27:11).

“Because his God has taught him this, has given him instruction [yarah]” (Isaiah 28:26).

“He too taught me; he said to me, “Let your heart treasure my words; keep my commands, and live …” (Proverbs 4:4).
