Isaiah 57:1 – The Righteous Person Perishes

“The righteous person perishes, and nobody gives it a thought. Godly men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous person is taken away from the evil yet to come.”

The Hebrew word for ‘righteous’ is tzadik and means ‘blameless, innocent, one in the right, just in one’s cause, and vindicated by God.’

‘Perish’ in Hebrew is abad and means ‘annihilate, destroyed.’ Regarding individuals, this word means ‘vanish from memory.’ It also means ‘put to death’ or ‘blot out’ as in idols or the ‘book of life.’

The phrase ‘nobody gives it a thought’ is ‘takes to heart’ or sum al lev. Sum means ‘to place or set’ in the sense of directing their attention or putting their mind to.’ Al is a preposition that means ‘upon, above or over.’ Lev means ‘inner man, will, and mind.’ Lev also means ‘thinking or reflecting’ with the soul.

In Hebrew, the word for ‘godly’ is chesed and means ‘good and kind’. Chesed also means ‘favored by God.’

The phrase ‘taken away’ in Hebrew is asaph and means ‘to gather, assemble, and remove.’ This word can refer to an individual or a group of people. It is used in reference to ‘gathering an army together.’

‘Evil’ in Hebrew is ra and means ‘bad, painful, misery, distress.’ It is used to describe ‘wicked’ Haman in the book of Esther.

The blameless, innocent, person in the right, vindicated by God is annihilated and destroyed and vanished from memory and no one in their inner man, their soul, reflects or thinks about it. Good and kind men and women, favored by God are gathered together, assembled as an army, and removed from the pain, misery and distress of the wicked.”
