Yeshua taught ‘Biblical Judaism.’ He did not remove or destroy the Torah and Prophets, the Words of His Father. He came to live them out the way they were meant to be lived out: with love for Adonai and love for his neighbor. His ‘yoke,’ the ‘yoke’ of his Father is light and easy (Matthew 28:11-30). John, his disciple, understood his teachings and wrote that the “Torah is not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).
Peace – Hebrew: Shalom
Shalom aleikhem means ‘shalom upon you.’ The response is to return the ‘shalom’ by saying Aleikhem shalom or ‘upon you shalom.’ This is what Yeshua told his disciples as he sent them out to the ‘lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ Shalom aleikhem was the greeting he spoke when he appeared to his disciples after his resurrection.
Aaronic Blessing – Priestly Blessing
This blessing was spoken to put the memorial name of God on His people: Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh, yod-hey-vav-hey. Adonai is the ‘name’ used today because the verbally spoken memorial name given to Moshe has been lost.
Blessing for Bread – Challah
Challah is the special braided bread that is eaten on the Sabbath. Challah is derived from the small piece that is pulled off the bread and given to the priests. Challah has its root meaning in ‘bride.’
