Psalm 108 – A son, a psalm by David.
“My heart is steadfast, God. I will sing and make music with my glory. Awake, lute and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will thank you, Adonai, among the peoples; I will make music to you among the nations. For your grace is great, above heaven, and your truth, all the way to the skies. Be exalted, God, above heaven! May your glory be over all the earth, in order that those you love can be rescued; so save with your right hand, and answer me! God in his holiness spoke, and I took joy [in his promise]: “I will divide Sh’khem and determine the shares in the Sukkot Valley. Gil‘ad is mine and M’nasheh mine, Efrayim my helmet, Y’hudah my scepter. Mo’av is my washpot; on Edom I throw my shoe; Over P’leshet I shout in triumph.” Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? God, have you rejected us? You don’t go out with our armies, God. Help us against our enemy, for human help is worthless. With God’s help we will fight valiantly, for he will trample our enemies.”
Psalm 121 – A song of ascents:
“If I raise my eyes to the hills, from where will my help come? My help comes from Adonai, the maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip — your guardian is not asleep. No, the guardian of Isra’el never slumbers or sleeps. Adonai is your guardian; at your right handAdonai provides you with shade —
the sun can’t strike you during the day or even the moon at night. Adonai will guard you against all harm; he will guard your life. Adonai will guard your coming and going from now on and forever.”
Psalm 20 – Psalm for Israel
For the leader. A psalm of David:
“May Adonai answer you in times of distress, may the name of the God of Ya‘akov protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Tziyon. May he be reminded by all your grain offerings and accept the fat of your burnt offerings. (Selah) May he grant you your heart’s desire and bring all your plans to success. Then we will shout for joy at your victory and fly our flags in the name of our God. May Adonai fulfill all your requests. Now I know that Adonai gives victory to his anointed one — he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we praise the name of Adonai our God. They will crumple and fall, but we will arise and stand erect. Give victory, Adonai! Let the King answer us the day we call.”
Psalm 120
A song of ascents:
“I called to Adonai in my distress, and he answered me. Rescue me, Adonai, from lips that tell lies, from a tongue full of deceit. What has he in store for you, deceitful tongue? What more will he do to you? A warrior’s sharp arrows, with red-hot coals from a broom tree. How wretched I am, that I’m an alien in Meshekh, that I must live among the tents of Keidar! I have had to live far too long with those who hate peace. I am all for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.”
Exodus 16:32-34
“Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept safe for future generations so that they can see the food that I used to feed you in the desert when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar, and put one full omer of manna in it. Then set it in the Lord’s presence, where it should be kept safe for future generations.” Aaron did as the Lord commanded Moses, and he put it in front of the covenant document for safekeeping.”
Psalm 116:12-14, 17-19
“What shall I repay Adonai for all His benefits to me? I will lift up the [Passover] Cup of Salvation [Yeshua], and call upon the name of Adonai. I will pay my vows to Adonai; may it be in the presence of all His people! You have unfastened my restraints. I will offer You a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call upon the name of Adonai. I will pay my vows to Adonai, may it be in the presence of all His people, In the courtyards of Adonai’s house, in the midst of you, Jerusalem! Halleluyah Yah!”
Psalm 14:7
“Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.”
Psalm 126:1-3
“When the Lord brought back [a]the captives of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us; we are joyful.”
Psalm 122
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, “May peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.”
Psalm 118 for Feast of Tabernacles
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of Adonai. We bless you from the house of Adonai. Adonai is God, and he gives us light. Join in the pilgrim festival with branches all the way to the horns of the altar. You are my God, and I thank you. You are my God; I exalt you.”
Psalm 51 for Yom Kippur
For the leader. A psalm of David, when Natan the prophet came to him after his affair with Bat-Sheva:
“God, in your grace, have mercy on me; in your great compassion, blot out my crimes. Wash me completely from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my crimes, my sin confronts me all the time. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil from your perspective; so that you are right in accusing me and justified in passing sentence. True, I was born guilty, was a sinner from the moment my mother conceived me. Still, you want truth in the inner person; so make me know wisdom in my inmost heart. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear the sound of joy and gladness, so that the bones you crushed can rejoice. Turn away your face from my sins, and blot out all my crimes.
“Create in me a clean heart, God; renew in me a resolute spirit. Don’t thrust me away from your presence, don’t take your Ruach Kodesh away from me. Restore my joy in your salvation, and let a willing spirit uphold me. Then I will teach the wicked your ways, and sinners will return to you.”
“Rescue me from the guilt of shedding blood, God, God of my salvation! Then my tongue will sing about your righteousness — Adonai, open my lips; then my mouth will praise you. For you don’t want sacrifices, or I would give them; you don’t take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; God, you won’t spurn a broken, chastened heart. In your good pleasure, make Tziyon prosper; rebuild the walls of Yerushalayim. Then you will delight in righteous sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then they will offer bulls on your altar.”
Psalm 25 for Elul
By David:
“Adonai is my light and salvation; whom do I need to fear? Adonai is the stronghold of my life; of whom should I be afraid? When evildoers assailed me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and foes, they stumbled and fell. If an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear; if war breaks out against me, even then I will keep trusting. Just one thing have I asked of Adonai; only this will I seek: to live in the house of Adonai all the days of my life, to see the beauty of Adonai and visit in his temple. For he will conceal me in his shelter on the day of trouble, he will hide me in the folds of his tent, he will set me high on a rock. Then my head will be lifted up above my surrounding foes, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, sing praises to Adonai. Listen, Adonai, to my voice when I cry;show favor to me; and answer me. “My heart said of you, ‘Seek my face.’” Your face, Adonai, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, don’t turn your servant away in anger. You are my help; don’t abandon me; don’t leave me, God my savior. Even though my father and mother have left me, Adonai will care for me. Teach me your way, Adonai; lead me on a level path because of my enemies — don’t give me up to the whims of my foes; for false witnesses have risen against me, also those who are breathing violence. If I hadn’t believed that I would see Adonai’s goodness in the land of the living, . . Put your hope in Adonai, be strong, and let your heart take courage! Yes, put your hope in Adonai!”
